Water Treatment Dealership Websites – A Doubled-Edged Sword

More than ever, consumers are taking it upon themselves to try to self-educate and search for solutions to fit their family’s needs via the internet. Whether it is to purchase everyday items and gifts on Amazon or researching a major upcoming purchase, one thing remains the same – people feel comfortable surfing the internet.

Websites offer customers the ability to shop and learn without feeling pressured – not to mention save time.  This presents a few potential challenges for us as professional service providers. 

The first challenge is that the internet tends to only offer a 1-way communication path and in most cases does not result in conversation. A second challenge is one that refers to an old adage that we have all heard; “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Well, this is an unfortunate reality when it comes to websites. 

According to some research, you have approximately 15 seconds to capture the attention of your prospective customers before they move on to your competitors. Within seconds, people are judging your company’s web-based book cover (website) for legitimacy, credibility and professionalism. So what do you do? 

Let’s start with the obvious fact that we must start with at least having a website. As an industry, it continues to surprise me at the amount of dealerships that still operate with a very limited site or no website at all. 

The most common hurdles I hear amongst our industry are based on the cost of website development and lack of understanding or knowledge of how to develop and maintain a site.
